The Inspector General

Michelle Anderson is the Assistant Inspector General for Audit and is acting as the Inspector General for the Social Security Administration (SSA).

The SSA Inspector General oversees a nationwide workforce of nearly 500 criminal investigators, auditors, information technology specialists, attorneys, program analysts, budget and management analysts, human resources specialists, and public affairs specialists.  Under her direction, the SSA Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is charged with conducting and supervising audits and investigations relating to the programs and operations of SSA. SSA OIG’s work promotes economy, efficiency, and effectiveness, and prevents and detects fraud, waste, and abuse in those programs and operations. SSA OIG keeps the Social Security Commissioner and Congress informed about problems and deficiencies relating to the administration of such programs and operations and the necessity for and progress of corrective action.
